Olive in Pakistan was worked out the slow way — on barani land in the Pothwar and the Soon Valley, over three decades of public research: how to propagate it, which varieties yield here, what the trees need, when to pick, and what the fruit can become.
That last question is where Zuriyat begins: the same research settled how olive is pickled and preserved. It is the work of Muhammad Ashraf Sumrah, Principal Scientist at the Barani Agricultural Research Institute, Chakwal.

1993 — 2026
Chapter I 1993
At the Horticultural Research Station in the Soon Valley, 110 fruit varieties are collected and acclimatised to the rainfed north — olive among them.
Chapter II 2007
The first of four consecutive projects: standardising how olive is propagated under local conditions, and what can be made from the fruit once it is grown.
Chapter III 2014
Research settles the right harvest stage for pickling olives in rapeseed oil with spices — the method behind a jar of olive pickle.
Chapter IV 2021
Twenty-eight years of nursery, orchard and processing work reach a national centre for olive research in Chakwal, and an Urdu guide to the fruit's nutritional and medicinal value.
Chapter V 2025
Olive pickle, olive jam and cold-pressed oil, made in Pakistan and shipped to homes across the country — the first orders leave in April 2025.
Today 2026
